TMZ: Actor Brad Renfro, 25, Reported Dead
LOS ANGELES (CBS) ―
TMZ is reporting that actor Brad Renfro ("The Client") is dead.
The 25-year-old actor was busted in 2005 during a Skid Row heroin sting. The web site says Renfro was found dead in his Los Angeles home Tuesday morning.
Police said Renfro -- whose credits include "Ghost World", "Apt Pupil, "Sleepers" and "Bully" -- was arrested when he tried to buy heroin from an undercover officer.
In 1998, the then 15-year-old was busted with cocaine and marijuana but he served no jail time after making a plea deal. In 2001 he was given probation for two years after he and a friend were charged with trying to steal a yacht in Fort Lauderdale.
Renfro, a native of Knoxville, Tennessee was discovered at the age of 10. Director Joel Schumacher chose Renfro to star in "The Client."
Renfro almost immediately won the Hollywood Reporter's Young Star Award and at one point was named by PEOPLE magazine one of their Top 30 Under 30.
In addition to the aforementioned run ins with the law, Renfro often made headlines for his off-camera antics. In May 2001, he was charged with underage drinking. In 2002, he was charged with public intoxication and driving without a license.
According to imdb.com, Renfro was working on several projects at the time of his death. He was in pre-production on "Joe the Engineer" and just wrapped "The Informers" with Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke, Kim Basinger and Billy Bob Thornton.
Renfro would have been 26 in July.
