Boy, 12, Seriously Hurt By Truck In Newport Beach

Witnesses Say Child Darted Into Traffic On MacArthur Boulevard

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) ― A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured Friday morning when he ran into traffic on MacArthur Boulevard and was struck by a pick-up truck, police said.

The driver of the Dodge truck was traveling southbound on MacArthur at 7:14 a.m. when he struck the boy at Ford Road, according to Sgt. Evan Sailor.

The boy was rushed to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo in serious condition, according to Sailor.

Witnesses told investigators the boy ran across the street against a red light, Sailor said.

The driver had the green light, he said, adding that police were still investigating.

No one else was injured in the crash.
