Hearings Begin For Accused 'Black Widows'

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― The two elderly Southern California women accused of orchestrating the deaths of two homeless men to cash in on their life insurance policies should know soon whether they'll face charges.

Seventy-six-year-old Helen Louise Golay and 74-year-old Olga Rutterschmidt are due in court for a preliminary hearing today that's expected to last at least until tomorrow.

Golay and Rutterschmidt are accused in the deaths of 73-year-old Paul Vados and 50-year-old Kenneth McDavid -- allegedly to cash in on about $2 million in life insurance policies they had taken out on the men.

Vados was run over in an alley in Hollywood in November 1999 and McDavid was killed in an alley in Westwood in June 2005.

The two women were arrested last May.
