He Graduates Friday, Dies In Fall On Saturday

Alan Hamai, 22, Found Dead After Falling Off Roof

BERKELEY (AP) ― Police in Berkeley are investigating the weekend death of a University of California, Berkeley student who apparently fell from the roof of an apartment building -- one day after graduating.

Alan Hamai, 22, died early Saturday morning after evidently falling from the three-story apartment building near Telegraph Avenue.

Hamai had graduated with an anthropology degree Friday morning.

Police spoke with acquaintances who were with him until 3 a.m. on Saturday, but could find no one who reported being with him immediately before his death.

It's not clear whether it was an accidental fall, a suicide or if foul play was involved. Police said there was no sign of a struggle.
