Daughter Arrested In Alleged Murder Of Elderly Man
BELLFLOWER, Calif.
A 58-year-old woman has been taken into custody today on suspicion of killing her elderly father and hiding the body in the backyard of his Bellflower home for several weeks, according to authorities.
A man's body was found in the 9800 block of Potter Street near Liggett Street around 4:45 p.m. Monday, said Deputy Derrick Thompson of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.
The victim -- an 85-year-old man -- had been missing for months, KCAL 9 reported.
On Monday, deputies went to the residence for a welfare check requested by a neighbor, according to KCAL9. When they arrived, they were greeted by the victim's daughter, Thompson said.
Deputies found the body of the missing man in his home's back yard.
"The victim had been dead for several weeks," Thompson added. His name has not been released.
The body was discovered "by the shed in the backyard under some towels, blankets, cardboard...," the neighbor who requested the welfare check told KCAL 9.
The daughter was arrested on suspicion of murder, Thompson said.
The coroner's office will determine the cause of death, he added.
