Teen Injured, Boxer Killed In Bee Attack

CHATSWORTH, Calif. A teenage boy that was hiking with friends in Chatsworth's Stoney Point Park was hospitalized after being stung by a swarm of bees while trying to protect his friend's dog. The dog did not survive.

The incident was reported about 1 p.m. on Tuesday near the 10000 block of Andora Avenue, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman d'Lisa Davies.

Five boys -- including the victim -- and a boxer named Rocky were hiking at Stoney Point Park when the bees attacked, Jane Kolb, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, told the Daily News. Rocky and the teenagers were stung numerous times.

One of the teens was stung "as many as 200 times" as he picked up the dog, who had suffered numerous stings, and carried Rocky away from the hive, Chris Jones, the father of one of the boys, told KCAL 9.

"He carried the dog as far as he could and then collapsed," Jones said. The bees continued to swarm and sting, which prevented Jones from recovering the dog's body, according to KCAL 9.

The boy that attempted to rescue the boxer was transported to a hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.
