3 Women Accused Of Slashing Beauty Queen's Face

Police Say A Flirtatious Remark Led To A Razor Attack

BANNING, Calif. Banning police say three women attacked a former beauty queen over a flirtatious remark made to one of their boyfriends and with a razor blade facially scarred her for life.

Labrea Clayonda Steward, 27, Erica Michelle Bastidas, 21, and Azia Jene Aldred, 24, are accused of attacking a 20-year-old former varsity cheerleader and beauty queen, slashing her in the face and back with a razor blade.

The brawl apparently erupted in front of Banning 2005 "Peach Queen" Shanice Wilson's home in the 400 block of East Hoffer Street on July 11.

Wilson told police she made a comment to Bastidas' boyfriend about riding his scooter. The boyfriend, Clarence Dunahoo, told her: "You can ride anything you want."

The comment from her boyfriend apparently enraged Bastidas, who was nearby and allegedly said to Wilson, "That's not funny, bitch. You'll get yours."

Wilson then saw Bastidas talking to two other women and challenged her. Wilson said, "Come outside the fence and get your fade," according to a sworn declaration. "Get your fade" is slang for getting knocked out.

Wilson told police she came around the fence and Bastidas rushed her and began throwing punches, according to Banning police Officer Greg Herrington. Wilson and Bastidas were on the ground fighting when Aldred allegedly began hitting her on the body and face and pulling her hair.

Wilson passed out briefly. When she regained consciousness, the other women were walking away, according to Wilson's account to police.

Wilson told investigators she believed Aldred was the one who cut her face, because she heard the other woman say: "Now every time she sees her face in the mirror, she will remember me," according to the declaration.

Doctors at Desert Regional Hospital told police that Wilson would likely be scarred for life. She needed 32 staples to close a cut on her upper back, but deep cuts to her face were too severe for stapling, Herrington said.

Aldred surrendered last Wednesday, and Bastidas was picked up at her home last Thursday, police said. An arrest warrant was issued for Steward, who was arrested Saturday, police said.

Steward was charged with aggravated mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon liable to cause great bodily injury. Both Steward and Bastidas are scheduled to be arraigned Friday.

Aldred pleaded not guilty to the charges last Friday and is due back in court this Friday for a felony settlement conference.
