Police Search For Would-Be Kidnapper

BALDWIN PARK A 16-year-old girl used a ballpoint pen to stab a man in his face when he grabbed her as she walked home from school in Baldwin Park, and police believe the same man has targeted other children, authorities said Friday.

The most recent incident took place around 11:50 a.m. on March 3 in the 13400 block of Dalewood Street when a man in his 40s jumped out from between two vehicles and grabbed the girl's arm, Baldwin Park police Lt. David Reynoso said.

The victim later helped investigators develop a composite sketch of the man, and police believe the suspect is connected to two other incidents involving children that occurred in February, Reynoso said.

A 12-year-old boy was walking home from school in the 14200 block of Merced Avenue near Baldwin Park Boulevard on Feb. 7 when he noticed a man was following him, police said.

The boy ran toward a group of children and lost track of the suspect, but once he arrived at home, the boy heard the doorbell and saw the same man at his door. The man left when the door was not opened, he said.

On the morning of Feb. 25, a 12-year-old girl was on her way to school when a man hiding behind a parked van jumped out and grabbed her arm, police said. The man released the victim when she tried to bite his arm and ran home.

The man in these attacks is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build and an unshaven face. His hair is balding at the top and short on the sides. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved red plaid shirt and blue jeans torn at the knees.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Baldwin Park detectives Mark Harvey or Diana Camargo at (626) 960-1955.
