L.A. Pool Hall Owner Gets Life For 2 Murders

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― The owner of a Los Angeles pool hall will spend life in prison without chance of parole for shooting two people who sold him the business.

A judge on Friday sentenced 48-year-old Bae Hyuk Shin for the 2004 murders. Prosecutors say Shin shot the former owner of Nice Q Billiards in Koreatown and a middleman because he thought they cheated him on the deal.

He was convicted in August of first- and second-degree murder with special circumstances. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.

In addition to the life sentence, Shin was ordered to serve a consecutive sentence of 65 years to life and to pay more than $25,000 in restitution.

It was Shin's second trial. His first ended with a hung jury in March.
