Baby Boy Surrendered To Pasadena Fire Station
PASADENA
A newborn boy was safely surrendered at a Pasadena fire station, officials announced today.
The baby boy was brought in to a fire station in Pasadena Wednesday, said Tony Bell, an aide to Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich. He is the third infant placed in the Safe Surrender program this year and the 76th since its inception.
The child was put in protective custody and is awaiting placement with a family approved for adoption by the Department of Children and Family Services, Bell said.
"This is another example of a young life saved and given a second chance because someone chose to surrender rather than abandon him," Antonovich said.
The Safe Surrender Program was conceived by Supervisor Don Knabe and approved unanimously by the Board of Supervisors in 2001. The program encourages the surrender of newborn babies to designated sites throughout Los Angeles County.
