Suspect Killed In Deputy-Involved Shooting

AZUSA, Calif. (AP) ― Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies have shot and killed a man near Azusa following a car chase.

Sgt. Kirk Smith says deputies were watching a stolen car around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in an unincorporated area near the Los Angeles suburb when someone got in and drove away.

Deputies tried to stop the Ford Escort and a chase began.

Smith says the driver finally stopped and ran into a residential  neighborhood.

Deputies searched for the man and he was confronted and shot about two hours later. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity was not immediately released and other details of the shooting were not immediately available.

No deputies were hurt.
