Twenty people were arrested Thursday and 18 others were being sought Friday for their alleged involvement in one of California's largest, longest-running auto-insurance scams, authorities said. Four others were arrested earlier.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the alleged ringleader Curtis H. Connor, 72, was among those who remain at large, The Times reported.
Connor has served several years in prison for a previous auto-insurance fraud conviction, The Times reported. Several of Connor's sons, daughters and grandchildren were also allegedly involved in the scam.
"We will keep searching until we get every one of them in custody," Detective Ronald Vega said.
The documents compiled by the detectives detailed dozens of allegedly fabricated accidents since 2000 that resulted in more than $512,000 being bilked from 10 insurance companies.
