Five Asian communities in Los Angeles will share in a $250,000 grant aimed at preserving their history, and the city's Community Redevelopment Agency will nearly match the grant, officials said Saturday.
"Los Angeles is home to historic Asian neighborhoods that have long been a source of cultural pride for the entire city," said Cecilia Estolano, head of the CRA. "This grant provides funds that will help expand the efforts of the local businesses and residents to promote their unique heritage to a greater audience."
The grant, to be shared by neighborhood groups in Chinatown, Filipinotown, Koreatown, Little Tokyo and Thai Town, comes from the National Park Service as part of a White House initiative. It will be matched by $211,327 in CRA funds, according to the city agency.
The grant award was announced Saturday in Little Tokyo.
