Arrest Made In 110 Freeway Shooting

Police Believe Samantha Padilla Was Targeted

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Los Angeles police have made an arrest in the car-to-car shooting death of a young woman near a freeway off-ramp.

Officer Jason Lee says 30-year-old Jessica Ortega of Ramona Gardens was arrested Friday in the slaying of 19-year-old Samantha Padilla.

The vehicle believed used in the shooting also is in custody.

Lee says detectives are continuing their investigation into other possible outstanding suspects.

Padilla was shot early Thursday while stopped at a traffic light at the end of an off-ramp from the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles.

Lee says the shooting was not random and it appears Padilla was targeted.
