An alleged DUI driver killed a 75-year-old woman and injured her passenger when he blew through a red light in Anaheim, slamming his large SUV into their small car, authorities said.
The accident took place at the intersection of Orangewood Avenue and 9th Street around 10:50 p.m. Monday, Anaheim police Sgt. Juan Reveles said.
The driver of a compact car and a 40-year-old woman were moving westbound on Orangewood Avenue when they were struck by a black Chevy Tahoe heading north on 9th Street, Reveles said.
Upon impact, the compact spun about 20 yards until it crashed into a block wall in a residential neighborhood, he said.
The driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Reveles said. Her name has not been released.
The 40-year-old victim was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange and is listed in stable condition, he said.
The Tahoe spun some 60 yards from the point of impact and also crashed into a block wall, but the driver was not hurt, Reveles said.
Witnesses told police that the Tahoe's driver -- Miguel Angel Gallardo, 45, of Anaheim -- ran a red light, he said.
Gallardo was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Reveles said.
