Downtown L.A. Ammonia Leak Sends 2 To Hospital

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Two people have been hospitalized and an industrial facility near downtown Los Angeles evacuated after a faulty pump leaked ammonia.

Vernon Fire Department Battalion Chief Andrew Guth said personnel were sent to the Farmer John's Packing Company Distribution Center late Tuesday.

Two workers there had been exposed to ammonia, which is used in refrigeration. They were hosed down and taken to a hospital.

Their conditions were not immediately known.

Guth said the leak was contained, although fire fighters and a Hazmat crew remained on the scene for cleanup.
