CHP Issues Amber Alert For Sunland Siblings

Police Say Suspect Also Shot Estranged Wife Before Grabbing His Sons

SUNLAND A man allegedly shot his estranged wife and snatched their two young sons Sunday, fleeing with the children in a black pickup truck, Los Angeles police said.

An Amber Alert has been issued for 5-year-old Diego Fabian Ortega and 3-year-old Luis Gonzalo Ortega.

Their father, 26-year-old Jose Luis Ortega, shot their mother while they watched.

The mother's name has not been released. Police say she is in critical condition.

The gunman is considered armed and dangerous, and police say he is a 5-foot-6 Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes.

Five-year-old Diego was last seen wearing a blue and green shirt, jeans and white shoes.

The toddler, Luis, was last seen wearing a red shirt and white shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
