Firefighters discovered the body of an elderly woman shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday after putting out a fire in her Altadena house. Officials say the woman's death and the fire both appear suspicious.
The fire was reported at 3225 Lincoln Ave., according to Inspector Sam Padilla of the county fire department.
The name of the woman, who was believed to be about 90 years old, was not immediately released pending notification of family.
An investigation was being conducted into the cause of the woman's death and the cause of the fire. Her injuries were not fire-related, according to her authorities.
Officials said the woman was found "in a pool of blood" in her kitchen.
Reporting from the scene KCAL 9's Randy Paige said the fire was knocked down within 10 minutes.
Liam Gallagher, of the LA County Sheriff's Department, confirmed blood was found in the house, and said as to the cause of death "we are just treating it as suspicious at this time."
