Suspects In Compton Fire On Deputies With AK47s

COMPTON, Calif. (AP) ― Officials say two suspects with a large-caliber rifle shot at sheriff's deputies in Compton.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Eric Castano says deputies were patrolling south of the Compton Airport at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when they were fired upon by two men with a rifle. Castano says judging by the noise of the weapon, the gun was likely an assault rifle.

He could not confirm media reports the weapon was an AK-47.

The deputies, who were not hit, exchanged fire before the suspects fled.

Castano says deputies have sealed off a large area and plan to clear an apartment complex to locate the suspects.
