710 Freeway To Close Twice For Construction

SOUTH GATE The Long Beach (710) Freeway will be closed twice this weekend between the Artesia (91) and Glenn Anderson (105) freeways as part of an ongoing re-paving project.

The lane closures are scheduled from 12:01 a.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday, and from 11 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday, said Maria Raptis of Caltrans.

Also, eastbound and westbound connectors from the 91 Freeway to the northbound 710 Freeway will be closed, along with connectors from the 105 Freeway to the southbound 710.

On-ramps will be closed on the northbound 710 at Long Beach Boulevard, on the southbound 710 at Imperial Highway and in both directions at Alondra Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue.

Between the hours of 7 a.m. Saturday and 11 p.m. Sunday, only two northbound lanes will be open, and only three southbound lanes will be open.

During this time, the speed limit on the 710 Freeway in the area will be reduced to 45 mph, and oversized loads will not be permitted due to narrower lane widths. Detour signs will be posted for affected motorists.

All closures are "weather permitting," because re-paving requires temperatures above 50 degrees and dry conditions, Raptis said.

The closures will be repeated the following weekend during the same time
periods.
