Two people died in a fiery crash Friday night on the Torres Martinez Indian Reservation south of Coachella, according to CalFire and coroner's officials.
A pickup truck collided with a sedan at 9:42 p.m. on Tyler Street a mile north of 66th Avenue, coroner's officials said. The pickup truck caught fire but the sedan apparently did not.
CalFire-Riverside County officials said the collision was reported to them at 10:02 p.m. Firefighters responded and had the fire contained by 10:10 p.m. and controlled by 10:15 p.m.
The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the crash scene, coroner's officials said. One victim was identified, but coroners officials were still confirming the second person's identity today, they said.
Neither name could be released, as survivors were being notified.
The California Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
