Rock Thrown Onto 118 Freeway Injures Man

MOORPARK, Calif. (AP) ― A driver was seriously injured when a rock thrown onto a freeway in Moorpark crashed through his windshield and hit him in the face.

California Highway Patrol officials say Nicolas Angell was driving west on State Route 118 early Thursday morning when a rock was thrown from the right shoulder onto the roadway, hitting his car.

Sgt. Mike Curtin says the softball-sized rock broke several of Angell's teeth and caused multiple fractures to his face and nose.

Another rock bounced off a car hood and damaged a woman's windshield but did not break through. A car's sunroof was also smashed by a rock.

The CHP is investigating.

Curtin says Thursday's incidents could lead to charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
