A young woman driver was killed early this morning in a car-to-car shooting near a South Los Angeles freeway offramp.
Police say 19-year-old Samantha Padilla was driving at a merger with an offramp from the 110 Freeway after midnight. Witnesses said a brown Ford Bronco pulled up to Padilla's car and someone opened fire.
No arrest has been made and a description of the shooter is not available.
Detectives say car-to-car shootings are not uncommon in the area, and the violence is often gang-related. It does not appear Padilla was connected to any gangs.
Southern California has had a spate of shootings on major roadways. In recent weeks, at least five other people have died. One of those cases is being investigated as a possible suicide.
