101 Fwy Reopened After 'Suspicious' Object Removed

WOODLAND HILLS A "suspicious object" found Friday on a freeway overcrossing prompted closure of the Ventura (101) Freeway for about a half hour, but no explosives were found, authorities said.

The item was discovered about 9 a.m. on the Valley Circle overcrossing to the 101, said California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin. The freeway and overcrossing were closed and a bomb squad was summoned, he said.

About a half hour later, the freeway was reopened, but the overcrossing remained closed while an investigation continued, Martin said.

By about 10:50 a.m., the bomb squad removed the item, which was not explosive, and the overcrossing was reopened, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
