Police See String Of Robberies On Melrose Avenue

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A recent surge of armed robberies has the hip shopping hub of Melrose Avenue on edge.

Sgt. Ruby Malachi of the Los Angeles Police Department Police says there have been seven robberies in 10 days on Melrose between Fairfax and La Brea, a popular stretch of restaurants and retail outlets.

Police say the robberies have involved between one and three gunmen who confront victims late at night or early in the morning and demand money.

Police say no one has been hurt in the holdups because victims have complied with their demands.
