CES Day One - Thin Is In

LAS VEGAS (CBS) ― CES kicked off in Las Vegas on Monday, but the party really starts on Sunday, when companies announce their new products in advance of being able to check them out on the showroom floor.

It's the biggest year yet for CES - 1.8 million square feet of exhibits, and believe me, it is not an easy feat to see it all. I was up early in the morning to get a head start, and I walked all day long - moving from booth to booth to see what's going on.

The big companies have very elaborate booth setups. Some feature entertainment, like singing or dancing, many have interactive displays and gadgets you can touch and try. Some of the concepts, like a lot of the thin TV's we are seeing, are strictly hands-off.

The trend this year is definitly thin TV's. You thought your flat panel was flat? Some of the TV's they're showing off are as slim as 9 millimeters thin! Sony has a super-bright TV using a new technology called OLED, and Hitachi has a 1.5 inch thick TV. You might only need a single nail to hang up your TV in the future!

I'll be at CES all week, bringing you the latest - so tune in to KCAL 9 each night at 8 and 10 PM for a look at the coolest gadgets from the showroom floor.
