Police detained NBA star Paul Pierce in handcuffs during a weekend traffic stop on the Las Vegas Strip, but released him without issuing a summons.
Las Vegas police Officer Bill Cassell said Monday that the Boston Celtics player was handcuffed briefly after emerging "a little agitated" from a vehicle he was driving when police stopped him about 3 a.m. Sunday on Las Vegas Boulevard near Tropicana Avenue.
The 6-foot-7, 235-pound guard-forward was given field sobriety tests and a Breathalyzer, which registered below the 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level for driving in Nevada.
Cassell didn't provide the test result, but says Pierce wasn't arrested and wasn't issued a summons.
A valet was called to drive Pierce's car, and Pierce took a cab back to where he was staying.
Pierce is a six-time NBA all-star and was the most valuable player in the 2008 NBA Finals.
The Celtics and Pierce's agent had no immediate comment Monday.
