Police Impersonator Sentenced To 36 Years To Life

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A felon convicted of impersonating a police officer and robbing an elderly couple at knifepoint has been sentenced to 36 years to life in prison.

Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Clifford Klein handed down the sentence Thursday for 48-year-old Dennis James Bryley.

Deputy District Attorney Ruby Arias says Bryley was convicted in March of two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of residential robbery.

The sentence stems from a 2007 incident, when Bryley knocked on the door of a Reseda couple's home and identified himself as a police officer investigating an auto accident earlier that day.

When one victim grew suspicious, Bryley robbed the couple of $100 at knifepoint before fleeing on foot.
