A meatpacking worker charged with animal cruelty in a case involving a Chino slaughterhouse that led to the nation's largest-ever beef recall has been arrested.
Daniel Ugarte Navarro was taken into custody Saturday at his Pomona home on a warrant issued the day before. He was released Sunday on $7,500 bail.
San Bernardino Deputy District Attorney Debbie Ploghaus says Navarro could face nearly 6 years in prison.
Another worker at the Westland/Hallmark Meat Co. who is charged with misdemeanors involving the illegal movement of sick or injured cattle remains at large.
Ploghaus says prosecutors are continuing to investigate the slaughterhouse for labor violations. USDA officials are also investigating the company.
