LAPD To Display Stolen Items From LAX

LAPD: Stolen Property Recovered At LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― If you've ever had anything stolen from your luggage at LAX, now's your chance to get it back!

We uncovered a major theft ring involving workers at the airport and now we're seeing their haul! CBS 2 investigative reporter David Goldstein shows us.

All these items were packed away in luggage by passengers flying at LAX. Then pilfered by employees.

"Hey you stealing stuff out of luggage?"

Two weeks ago we exposed a hidden underworld at LAX.

"You stealing stuff?"

Baggage handlers busted.

LAPD officers recovered 272 stolen items, plus more than $10,000 in cash!

The biggest passenger theft bust in LAX history. Police recovered dozens and dozens of purses, cameras, computers and designer sunglasses. If any of this is yours, police are giving you a chance to re-claim it.

LAX is the No. 1 airport in the nation for claims of thefts from luggage, according to information we obtained from TSA, and from employees who want to remain anonymous.

"Easy pickings?"

"Easy pickings."

They say there are organized rings of thieves, who identify valuables in your checked luggage by looking at the TSA X-Ray screens, then communicate with baggage handlers by text or cell phone, telling them exactly what to look for.

"This is a laptop here, VCR here and it's located in this area of the bag. Here's the color of the bag. They give them all the information they need to know."

But now police have recovered some items. And if victims can identify them – they can get them back.

The stolen items will be on display this Saturday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the LAPD's Ahmanson Recruit Training Center, 5651 West Manchester Avenue in West L.A. You'll need either a receipt or have a good description of the item.
