The city recently installed the $3,500 bins featuring solar panels on top and a compactor inside. Whenever garbage is tossed in, the compactors automatically crush the material, allowing the so-called "Big Belly" bins to hold up to 200 gallons of waste.

The company says its green-and-white, diesel-electric tug, named the Carolyn Dorothy, can perform the same as a traditional tug, but with 44 percent less pollution.

				<span>More than 100,000 Southern California Edison customers have installed more than 1 million energy-efficient light bulbs since October as part of an effort to combat climate change, the utility announced today. </span>
				<span>Using Energy Star Compact Fluorescent Lamp bulbs has saved customers $27 million on their utility bills while cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 420 million pounds, according to the utility.</span> </p>
