Gas Prices On The Rise Again
Gasoline Prices Rise For Second Consecutive Week
LOS ANGELES (CBS) ―
The price of gasoline in Los Angeles and Orange counties rose for the second consecutive week this week, but the increase is slowing down. This week's increase is less than half the amount of increase last week, the Automobile Club of Southern California said Friday.
The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose 3 cents this week to $3.333 -- 3 cents more than last month and 71 cents more than this time last year. The average rose 8.1 cents from Dec 28.-Jan. 4, which ended five consecutive weeks of declines.
The Orange County average rose 2.4 cents to $3.291 -- 5 cents more than last month and 71.8 cents more than this time last year. The average increased 9.4 cents from Dec 28.-Jan. 4, which also ended five consecutive weeks of declines.
"It's not unusual for gas prices to increase slightly in January as they did this past week," Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring said. "What is more unusual is that the new year began at such a high level for prices. We are
now paying the same amount on average as we were last April, when gasoline prices were nearing their all-time records."
The Auto Club provided this breakdown of gasoline prices in selected portions of California and Nevada as of Friday:
