L.A. Gas Prices Drop 40 Cents From Month Ago!
LOS ANGELES
The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline fell for the seventh consecutive week in Los Angeles and Orange counties this week, pushing prices below $4 at some stations, the Automobile Club of Southern California reported Friday.
The Los Angeles County average dropped 10 cents to $4.179 -- 40 cents lower than at this time last month and 44.7 cents less since hitting a record high of $4.626 on June 21, but $1.21 higher than at this time last year.
The Orange County average dropped 10.1 cents to $4.132 -- 42 cents lower than last month and 46.6 cents lower than the record high of $4.598 set on June 19, but $1.22 higher than at this time last year.
Lakewood, Pasadena, Woodland Hills, Huntington Beach and Santa Ana are among the Southland cities where the price of unleaded regular has begun dipping below $4 per gallon at some stations, said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring.
The average price went over the $4 mark for the first time on May 30, according to Auto Club figures.
"Our gas price drops over the past month have averaged more than a penny a day, but during the month before prices peaked, they were going up by over two cents a day," Spring said.
"We're still a long way away from the $3 price averages that we paid this time last year. Consumers should continue to shop aggressively for the best prices ßnd seek out those stations charging less than $4 a gallon if they are along their routes."
