Gas Prices Set Record Highs... Again

LOS ANGELES Police searched today for two men who rode in a vehicle whose driver tried to hit a Long Beach police officer, prompting him to open fire but apparently without hitting anything, authorities said.

Long Beach police officers went to a residential area of East 10th Street and Olive Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Thursday in response to a call reporting "subjects with a gun," said Long Beach police Sgt. David Marander.

Upon arrival, "a patrol officer attempted to detain a vehicle that was possibly involved," but the driver drove toward the officer at a high rate of speed in an attempt to hit him, he said.

In response, the officer fired his weapon toward the vehicle, Marander said, adding that it does not appear that the gunfire hit anything. The driver and his passenger fled.

The officer was not hurt, he said.

"We're looking for the vehicle and at least two male suspects at this time," he said, adding that the two appeared to be adults.
