Gas Prices Continue To Rise, Set Records

LOS ANGELES Gasoline prices in Los Angeles and Orange Counties hit records for the fourth consecutive week, though rose by less than in the previous two weeks, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was $3.858 in Los Angeles County as of Friday morning, erasing the record of $3.806 set last week.

The price is now 5.2 cents higher than last week, 24 cents more than last month and 54 cents more than at this time in 2007.

In Orange County, the average price is $3.82 today, topping the record of $3.76 set last Friday.

The average price of unleaded regular in Orange County is now 6 cents higher than last week, 26 cents more than last month and 50.8 cents more than at this time last year.

"For more than one-third of 2008 so far, California has been setting new daily price records for gasoline," Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring said.

"Gas conservation is a top concern for many motorists, so they should ensure their tires are properly inflated and that they adopt a smooth driving style to maximize their fuel economy."
