Brush Fire Near Castaic Burns 75 Acres

CASTAIC, Calif. (AP) ― A wildfire that burned 75 acres in the Angeles National Forest and briefly shut down Interstate 5 northwest of Los Angeles has been fully contained.

James Arthur, a dispatcher with the U.S. Forest Service, said the blaze near Castaic was surrounded at midnight Wednesday.

County fire Capt. Mike Brown said the blaze started in three different locations near the freeway on Wednesday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol shut down all lanes of northbound Interstate 5 near Castaic for more than an hour because of smoke from the fire.

The Forest Service was investigating the cause of the fire and reports of a vehicle near where the fire started.

Six helicopters and about 200 firefighters battled the flames, which burned through heavy brush and grass.
