Malibu Sues Coastal Commission Amid Fire Fears

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) ― The California Coastal Commission is being sued by Malibu over fears an overnight camping plan in the hills above the city would add to the danger of wildfires.

The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy wants to amend Malibu's coastal program to continue allowing overnight camping. But city officials say the conservancy's plan doesn't consider fire safety.

An illegal campfire apparently started last year's destructive Corral Canyon wildfire.

The City Council voted this week to go ahead with a lawsuit against the coastal commission over the conservancy application.
