Transient Pleads Not Guilty In Lady Bug Fire Probe

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Homicide detectives investigatingĀ the deadly Station wildfire that ravaged much of Angeles National Forest have arrested a transient suspected of starting a much smaller fire several miles away.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said they arrested Babatunsin Olukunle on Thursday.

He pleaded not guilty in a Pasadena courtroom Monday of unlawfully causing a fire on forest land.

Bail was set at $100,000.

Officials suspect Olukunle may have started theĀ so-called Lady Bug fire, which burned only a small patch of scrub six days before the devastating Station Fire erupted. He has not been named a suspect in the Station fire.

Sheriff's Lt. Liam Gallagher said his detectives have spoken to Olukunle about the Station Fire, which killed two firefighters and destroyed dozens of homes.

Olukunle is due back in court Nov. 19 for a preliminary hearing.
