Commercial Building Fire Burns In South L.A.
LOS ANGELES
A worker was burned on Monday when he accidentally sparked a fire that damaged a cabinet shop and an awning business in the South Los Angeles area, authorities said.
The fire was reported about 10:40 a.m. inside the cabinet shop in the 2300 block of Southwest Drive, said Ron Myers of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The man suffered second- and third-degree burns to an arm and was taken to a hospital in stable condition, Myers said.
According to the preliminary investigation, the man apparently spilled a cleaning solvent and sparks from a power tool ignited the fire, Myers said.
The fire burned through the roof of the single-story building housing the cabinet shop, and some damage was also reported to a two-story portion of the building occupied by an awning business, Myers said.
More than 100 firefighters were sent to the scene and the fire was declared out in about 90 minutes, Myers said. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
