Man In Hot Tub Denies Ignoring Evacuation Orders

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A man, who jumped into a hot tub to escape a wildfire near Los Angeles, said he didn't ignore evacuation warnings but stayed behind to warn a disabled neighbor.

Julius Goff badly burned his legs in the August blaze in the Angeles National Forest. Authorities used him as an example of what could happen when people don't heed evacuation orders.

Goff told the Los Angeles Times for Tuesday's edition he stayed behind to help a caregiver evacuate a wheelchair-bound neighbor, Trevor Pullen. He said the fire surrounded him by the time he got home to get his roommate and they ran through 50-foot flames to reach the tub in their home.

Pullen said he believes Goff saved his life.
