45-Acre Brush Fire In Pomona 50 Percent Contained

POMONA, Calif. (AP) ― A wildfire is sweeping through brushlands dangerously close to homes in Pomona.

The 45-acre fire broke out shortly before 11 a.m. in rolling hill country, but firefighters say they've got the flames 50 percent contained as of 4 p.m.

Several blocks of homes are next to the creeping flames.

Fire crews have been sent to protect the houses and set up firelines around the flames that are sending up white smoke above acres of yellow brush that provides quick-burning fuel.

Meanwhile, another wildfire has flared in Riverside County, but no homes are threatened.

That fire was expected to be contained at five acres.
