Authorities say the Malibu wildfire is now 97 contained, with full containment expected Tuesday.
Fire officials earlier said they hoped to have the blaze surrounded by 6 p.m.
The fire destroyed 53 homes and burned about 4,900 acres. Thirty-four other homes were damaged and as many as 14,000 people were evacuated from the blaze , which was whipped up Saturday by hot, dry Santa Ana winds.
Governor Schwarzenegger visited the area yesterday to survey the damage and promised to help fire victims.
Malibu was still recovering from last month's 4,565-acre Canyon Fire that destroyed six homes, two businesses and a church when the winds began whipping up again.
Investigators say the latest fire was caused by humans, but they have not determined if it was started intentionally.
