At least two homeowners have seen their dream homes burned to rubble in a wildfire that officials say may have been started by human activity.
Carole Stoddard, a freelance videographer and photographer, knew her house was burning when she evacuated. Armed with her camera, followed by CBS 2/KCAL 9 cameras, she returned to see if anything had survived but was heartbroken to see that everything had been lost.
"Look at those flames still going on the hill," Stoddard said. "I can't believe my house is gone, my house is gone, my house is gone."
Stoddard's uninsured collection of classic cars was also destroyed, except for a Chevrolet Camaro.
"I lost everything. I have no clothes, all I have is the clothes on my back," Stoddard said. "I don't even have my passport, I can't go anywhere."
"I can't believe this happened."
Stoddard wasn't the only one who was stunned by what they found when returning home.
Brahm Harper had to find out what happened to the Corral Canyon 60's Ranch House he renovated with his wife. Harper's voice was unsteady as he described the house to CBS 2/KCAL 9's
Greg Mills.
All that was left of the house Harper had outfitted with maple wood floors and his wife's dream kitchen was ash and rubble.
"Not good," Harper said of how his wife was doing. "That's a pretty rough one. And my boy, he's been a bit upset. He's been Dad, I want to go home. We're going to have work on that start over."
