Camp Pendleton Blaze Forces Evacuations

CAMP PENDLETON (AP) ―

Authorities have lifted an evacuation order for about 1,000 homes threatened by a wildfire at Camp Pendleton, but say another 500 homes sitting on the border with the Marine base are to remain vacated.

Oceanside Police Sgt. Kelan Poorman says fire crews and helicopters Tuesday morning were still fighting flames near those homes still under mandatory evacuation.

On the base, Marine Cpl. Priscilla Vitale says the fire that has scorched more than 3,000 acres was about 25 percent contained Tuesday.

Vitale says the fires that started Monday on the base's training ranges were not caused by any type of military training.
