Camp Pendleton's Wildfire Smoke Drifts Into L.A.

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) ― A wildfire on a Marine Corps training range at Camp Pendleton has been contained but drifting smoke has prompted worried 911 calls miles away and a health advisory across Southern California.

The blaze, which erupted Wednesday, burned between 1,400 and 1,900 acres.

At its peak, the fire sent up a huge plume of smoke and dumped ash on homes in neighboring Orange and Riverside counties. Drifting smoke could still be seen today in some areas and some people in Los Angeles called 911 to report the smell of smoke.

The Southern California Air Quality Management District has issued a health advisory, urging those in areas where smoke can be seen or smelled to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
