Apache Fire Now Fully Contained

MOUNTAIN CENTER, Calif. (AP) ― After five days, a wildfire in the San Bernardino National Forest has been fully contained.

Fire officials say the 784-acre Apache fire hadn't grown for several days and was finally 100 percent surrounded Sunday.

Just over 300 firefighters remain on the scene for mop-up duties.

No injuries have been reported and no homes were threatened.

Investigators say a lit cigarette started the blaze Tuesday afternoon in the San Jacinto Wilderness, about 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

Portions of the wilderness area remained closed Sunday, including parts of the Pacific Crest Trail.
