It's almost time for a new Rose Queen to put the pedal to the metal.
The seven members of the 2009 Tournament of Roses Royal Court were named Monday from among 34 finalists.
One of those lucky seven will, of course, be named Rose Queen on October 21.
The announcement follows a three-week-long process in which more than
1,100 Pasadena-area young women tried out for the
As ambassadors of the Tournament of Roses, the Royal Court members will attend more than 150 community and media functions leading up to the 120th Rose Parade and 95th Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 1.
The princesses were selected based on a range of qualities: public speaking ability, poise, academic achievement, community involvement and personality among them, according to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association.
The seven Rose Princesses are:
-- Mary Elizabeth Gaule, a 17-year-old Altadena resident and senior at
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy
-- Jasmine Janae Jenkins, a 17-year-old La Salle High School senior who
lives in Pasadena
-- Courtney Chou Lee, a 17-year-old Arcadia resident who attends Arcadia
High School
-- Bridget Kathleen McDonald, an 18-year-old freshman at Pasadena City
College who plans to transfer to USC in the fall of 2009; she is a Pasadena resident
-- Mary "Molly" Patricia Novell, 18, of Sierra Madre, who is a senior
at La Salle High School
-- Lauren Nicole Valenzuela, a 17-year-old Temple City resident who is a
senior at Arcadia High School
-- Quinn Olivia Young, a 16-year-old La Canada High School senior.
