Music producer Phil Spector was depicted today as a man who hated women and threatened them with guns for decades in a pattern that eventually led to the killing of actress Lana Clarkson.
Today's opening statement by prosecutor Alan Jackson in the murder retrial of Spector drew fire from defense attorney Doron Weinberg who called it an effort to try Spector for his character, not for the crime he is accused of committing.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry Fidler told Jackson outside the jury's presence to stop referring to a pattern of behavior.
The judge told Jackson several times to stop referring to a pattern of behavior.
Weinberg later moved for a mistrial, saying the jury has been intentionally poisoned by the remarks. But it was rejected by Fidler, who reminded jurors that opening statements are not evidence.
Most of Jackson's opening dealt with a line of women stretching over 30 years whom he said were threatened with death by a gun-wielding Spector.
