Publicist Refutes Rumors Of Patrick Swayze's Death

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― Contrary to a barrage of rumors that spread Tuesday across the social networking site Twitter, Patrick Swayze is alive and responding to treatment, according to his publicist.

A statement released Tuesday by Swayze's publicist disputes the rumors.

"This is to confirm that Patrick Swayze did not pass away this morning contrary to severely reckless reports stemming from a radio station in Jacksonville, Florida. Patrick Swayze is alive, well and is enjoying his life and he continues to respond to treatment," Jayme Phillips, with the Office of Annett Wolf said.

It is unclear who started the rumor, but it quickly spread through the social networking site at the rate of hundreds of "tweets" per minute, like a digital version of the game telephone.

Swayze, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March 2008, is reportedly collaborating with his wife on a memoir depicting his life and battle with cancer.
