SANTA MONICA, Calif. (CBS) ― Owen Wilson remained hospitalized Monday, and the comedic actor asked for privacy while recovering from what some tabloids have reported was a suicide attempt.

''I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," Wilson said in a statement.

Santa Monica police released a statement Sunday saying that "at 12:10 p.m., officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a medical assistance call from the Santa Monica Fire Department at the 900 block of 23rd Street. The person was transported to a local hospital where they are being treated."

The patient turned out to be Wilson, who was originally taken to St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica. He was later transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition. Various entertainment media outlets reported that Wilson was visited by several members of his family, including his brother and fellow actor, Luke.

The National Enquirer and Star magazine reported that the star of "Wedding Crashers" had sliced his left wrist and taken an undetermined amount of pills. Those reports remained unconfirmed.

According to the Enquirer, Wilson was discovered by a family member who summoned help, and police and an ambulance responded to a 911 call from Wilson's house.

His wrist was stitched up and bandaged at the hospital, according to the tabloid, which said he was transferred from St. John's after being stabilized and was going to be "detoxed."

Wilson, 38, was nominated for an Oscar for his work on the screenplay "The Royal Tenenbaums." He also starred in "You, Me and Dupree," teamed with Jackie Chan in "Shanghai Noon" and voiced the main character in the animated hit "Cars."

Wilson recently broke up with actress Kate Hudson.
